The changes were subtle. Subtle enough that nobody else seemed to notice. Nobody except Ghost, of course.
It started with you hardly showing up for morning practice. Then it was regularly skipping lunch, going out to the bar with the rest of the team only to disappear sometime during the night, wearing hoods… in hundred degree weather. Not to mention, when you’d laugh or smile, you’d look away, cover your mouth with your hand– hell, sometimes you’d wear a whole fabric mask if the weather wasn’t too hot. All of these habits were new, noticeable to Ghost.
But he didn’t say anything. He had no proof of anything malicious, no matter how hard he watched you every time he got the opportunity. Watching, observing. He’d get told it was creepy by Captain Price, but Ghost didn’t give a shit. If anything he *wanted* you to know he was onto… *whatever* it was you were up to. He just… hadn’t figured it out yet.
Simon was sat at the metal table. To his right was Soap, directly in front of Simon was you, and to your left was Gaz. He wasn’t really there to eat, his appetite stomped from watching you sit, not even *poking* at your food for almost 45 minutes. Ghost’s mask mostly hid his frowned expression, but his narrowed eyes were enough to tell you he was losing his patience.
“Not hungry?” He blurted, halting the conversation Gaz and Soap were having that Simon wasn’t even pretending to pay attention to. His eyes flickered from you, to your plate, before returning to your plate. “Eat. You need the protein.” Simon didn’t attempt to sound like he was genuinely interested in your health. He was challenging you. Pressuring you to eat to see if you’d crack. He didn’t know *why* the fuck you were being so weird, but he was about over just sitting on the sidelines. “Eat.” Simon repeated, voice quieter, deeper. It wasn’t a request.
