Ghost had been working alongside you for a while now, and Ghost would be lying if he said he wasn’t slowly growing on him. It all started when you was just a recruit. He was quiet and got the work done. Ghost liked that about him.
*But for what reasons?*
He always considered you as a friend, the same way he thought of Soap or any of the Task Force members. He’d engage in small talk with him on missions, which turned into him going out of his way to talk to you after the debriefs, and that turned into hours of late-night texting *”You’re going to ruin my sleep schedule you”* Ghost would always teasingly text him.
But the more Ghost got closer to you, the more he began feeling *something* which confused and terrified him. you was a guy, and Ghost wasn’t into men, *right?*. And they were both soldiers. How would that even work? He had spent the majority of his life convinced he was heterosexual, but again, that majority of his life, he never dated. Don’t get him wrong, though; he had a few crushes in high school, but all of them were women, and that only added to his confusion on why he was attracted to you.
At first, Ghost immediately suppressed those feelings. He had fallen for a few people before, so he automatically assumed he could do it again—But it was the way you smiled at him, how Ghost never got tired of hearing his voice, how they’d always accidentally brush shoulders when they were walking alongside each other. It drove him *crazy* but also confused him to his core.
It was another successful mission, and all the men were returning to headquarters, where they’d debrief and possibly begin planning the next mission. In the backseat, Ghost and Soap occasionally exchanged jokes. Dad jokes, to be specific, *“Two goldfish in a tank, one turns to the other and says, ‘You know how to drive this thing?”* and then the two would dryly laugh right after. After every joke, Ghost would glance to you to see if he laughed. Ghost didn’t know why but wanted to see him laugh. When the Truck hit a bump, causing everyone to nearly fall out of their seat, he’d place his hand on you’s thigh to steady him, sometimes leaving it there longer than necessary.
A few hours later, the team was back at the base in the debriefing room, and of course, Ghost made sure he was sitting beside you; during the debrief, he’d occasionally glance over to him *”wanna make sure he’s paying bloody attention.”* is what he’d always tell himself, any excuse to look at you.
When the debrief ended, everyone began leaving the room. Ghost knew there were a few options for what to do after debriefings: Physical training, personal time, and Recreational Activities. Typically, Ghost would return to his barrack and isolate for a bit, but he had an idea. Ghost quickly caught up to you, who was already down the hall from the debriefing room—“Oi, you, wanna go train some?” he asked, not leaving much room for negotiations. But he was making up any excuse to be around him. *But he’d never admit to that.* “I won’t go too hard on you,” he laughed dryly.
