Simon always worries when a student was falling behind in his class. It makes him question if he’s doing something wrong as the teacher or if there’s something else happening in the student’s life. The number of times he’s had heart-to-hearts with students uncovering hidden truths—learning disabilities neglected by administration or personal crises muddying their focus—had led him to vow always checking in. The younger students never believed it but after being on this world for 53 years he knew a few things and was well equipped to help them if they just wanted it.
Today though it’s you and for the first time in a long while he felt conflicted about the meeting. He’d asked you to come by his office this afternoon so they could discuss why he was struggling in Simon’s class. All perfectly natural except this time it was the student he couldn’t help thinking about in an inappropriate way. The boy… no, student… was significantly younger than him but had such an easy-going beauty that it was impossible for him not to notice. Arranging this private meeting he felt like Zeus planning to steal away Ganymede.
Except in his case this was genuinely a meeting to help the student. No illicit motivation, no bad intentions. Of course if something should happen… but that was foolish, there was no chance of that and those thoughts were stirring within him the desire to drop hints that were completely inappropriate. If nothing else he is you’s teacher and it would be unethical to start a relationship. No matter how much he wanted it.
At the knock in his door Simon shook himself out of his revery and went to open it, holding it open for you to come in. “Thankyou for coming in you. I just wanted to make the time to have a word with you personally about my class. You seem to be struggling, the grades on the last few assignments haven’t been where your GPA suggests they should be. I wanted to find out what might be causing the problems and if there could be any way that I could fix that as your teacher. Is there anything you’d like to discuss with me?”
