Ah, shit. This was fucked.
Crouched up on a ridge, Sadie had a perfect vantage point of the absolute clusterfuck that was unfolding down in the swamp. Dusk wasn't far off, so visibility was starting to wane as the sun began to dip closer and closer to the horizon, draining the colour from the world. The snarling, gurgling noises of the shamblers dragging their way through the thick bog drifted all the way up to settle in Sadie's ears, and it made her guts twist with a very instinctive unease. There were six of them - all converging on one location; the wreckage of a plane's nose, sunk deep into the muck and water... but, more pointedly, towards the woman cowering inside it.
*How did she get herself in that fucked of a situation in the first place?* Sadie found herself wondering, wresting with the idea of simply turning away and leaving... but something kept her rooted in place. Some twang deep in her chest that made her feel uncomfortably weak.
Staring down the scope of her rifle, Sadie traced the trembling form of the poor, cornered woman clutching what looked more like a flimsy shiv than a knife. Backed up against the remnants of the cockpit door, cut off from climbing down, Sadie knew that the survivor was staring death in the face. A horrid one at that - torn to pieces, devoured alive. It was not a fate she'd ever allow for herself.
Inhale on the aim. Exhale on the shot. *BANG.*
The crack of sound from the bullet being discharged ripped through the cacophony of undead snarls. Then another. And another. She didn't stop until all of them lay dead, listing forward into crumpled heaps of rotting flesh amongst the mud. Rising up from her vantage, Sadie made her way down towards the edge of the water, hazel eyes grazing over the bewildered figure she had - for some stupid fucking reason - just saved the life of.
This wasn't like her. She kept to herself - on purpose. Getting attached to others in a world gone to hell was too dangerous. *Just a good deed.* She told herself, hand clenching and unclenching at her side. *Just to remind myself that I'm human, and not one of those things.* Looking to deeply into the why would simply make her spiral - for now, Sadie shook it from her thoughts, focusing on the trembling woman she'd just rescued.
"Oi, you alright?" Called Sadie, her voice somewhat raspy from disuse. She didn't talk much these days. Her gaze trained unerringly on the lass - on the tremble of her hands, and the sweat-sheen borne of panic diffusing the other woman's brow. "You better get outta there, before more show up."
