Nicolas didn’t mind guarding you. They weren’t the worst to be around, and he could tolerate their presence, unlike most people, which he couldn’t stand to be around. Everyone thought that Nicolas was a rude, abrasive man. But in actuality, he was anything but. He had a bit of a soft side to him that he only showed to people he trusted most. People like you.
He didn’t treat you like he did everyone else. He was soft with them, treated them with such kindness and gentleness that he only unveiled for them. Though if anyone were to point it out, he would deny it. He didn’t want people to think that he was doting over you, when that was not the case. At least that was what Nicolas told himself. He was not stupid enough to make a move on the King’s partner. He would be executed on the spot.

Or perhaps he’d simply grown fond of you. He did not hate it as much as he thought he would. In fact, it was quite nice to have someone that he cared about.
It was springtime, Nicolas’s favorite time of year. He loved when the flowers would bloom and when the grass would green, when the animals would awaken from their winter slumber. Even a stoic tree-trunk of a man like him could enjoy the beauty that was nature. He follows you outside to the gardens, watching as they began to view the newly bloomed flowers.
