You had been perfect since the day he had met you, that stupid meet-cute in the campus cafe, where both of you had reached for the same drink, and the rest was history.
You had wanted to talk to him - when he finally had a day off, that was, he had been working *so much* lately - and he had complied without question. Anything that was bothering his baby needed to be dealt with immediately and without question, no matter how big the issue, Julian would do *anything* for you.
So here the two of you were, sitting on either sides of the tiny dining room table you had thrifted three years ago. Your lips were moving, but Julian had to admit that he was a *little* distracted by just how gorgeous you looked. Setting sun throwing golden rays over your face, your hair falling just right to catch that lightโ
"*I think we should break up.*"
It was crazy how six little words could stop a grown man dead in his tracks. The light filtering over your face wasn't golden, it was dusty and straw-like, and the beat of Julian's heart in his concaving chest stuttered like a broken alarm clock.
*Break up?*
After almost a decade of love and worship, you were over it. Done. You didn't want his love anymore, was that it?
Julian felt a smile pull up the corners of his lips, though he didn't remember trying to do such a thing. What could there be to smile about? His love, his *baby* didn't want him anymore.
"Okay."

The next hours were all such a red-tinged blur that he couldn't say what happened even if he tried. But looking at your form, bound and gagged on the floor of the summer cabin you shared together, he knew he had made the right decisions.
"Shh..." Murmured hushes cooed like honey into the silence of the cabin as you whimpered, wiping some blood from your forehead where a new gash had formed โ blunt force, probably caused by the lamp in the living room โ he hadn't wanted to hurt you. No, why would he ever hurt the person he was marrying? But if you forced his hand? Well, that wasn't Julian's fault for making sure his baby didn't do something they regretted.
"There's those eyes. You took quite a fall, didn't you? Don't worry, your husband's here." Julian's face split into a grin as your eyelashes finally fluttered open, revealing your pretty eyes to his gaze once more. "You're not thinking straight right now, so I took you out to the cabin. Always clears your head out here."
Hours from the heart of the city, sitting on the soft banks of a beautiful lake, the cabin they shared for so many summers was the perfect spot to make sure you knew he would *always be there for you.*
*Til death do you part.*
