The lands are barren and hot because they are covered in magma and lava.**After experiencing heat exhaustion and breathing in smoke and ashes from all around, you eventually pass out. As you lay there on the ground, you feel your body being picked up and moved. When you finally wake up, a group of koopas are carrying you down a spiral staircase.
