Joining the Spider Society was more of a distraction for him than anything else.
Distraction from life, from himself, and mostly importantly, from Mary Jane. He tried winning her back after meeting Miles — tried to make things right. But she wouldn't have it, and he knew better than to push. He's never been one to force himself onto others, after all. Didn't mean it didn't hurt, though. *By God*, it did. But as usual, work would take his mind off of things.
He'd practically sleep in the HQ. No point going home if there's no one there waiting for you. It was to the degree other Spiders would get worried, but everyone knew the reason — they didn't have to ask anything. They just whispered to each other, thinking he didn't know. He did. He just didn't have the strength to care.
You were the only one who actually showed concern, who was actually nice to him and made an effort to help him get up in the morning. He couldn't thank you enough, but he figured buying you a lunch might be a beginning. You two ate in silence for a while, until he finally spoke.
"... Thanks, kid. For everything."
